  • What is MST?

    Marin Summer Theater (MST) is an evening program for students of performing arts between the ages of 13 and 23 and includes actors, singers, dancers, musicians, directors, designers, technicians, and crew. 

    In the summer of 2010 MST will present CHICAGO (a musical), Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (a comedy) and Some Enchanted Evening – The Song and Dance of Rodgers and Hammerstein (a song and dance review).  The MST program will run from June 14 to Aug. 1.

    MST is sponsored by San Marin Music Boosters with valuable support from San Marin High School and the Novato Unified School District. 

     
  • Who can participate?

    MST is open to any student between the ages of 12 and 23 that is serious about the performing arts. 

    For Performers, enrollment in the program is subject to audition and payment of a tuition fee of $325.  Performer auditions will be held on March 27th, 2010.

    For Asst Directors, Designers, Musicians, Technicians and Crew there is no fee, however an application and and interview are required.  Applications must be submitted by March 27th, 2010.

     
  • When is MST?

    Marin Summer Theater meets from 6pm to 9pm Monday thru Thursday and 1pm to 5pm on Sundays.  The entire program runs from June 14th to August 1, 2010.  Rehearsal dates vary with each show.

  • Where is it?

    Marin Summer Theater auditions, rehearses and performs at San Marin High School, 15 San Marin Drive, Novato.

     
  • Which shows can I do?

    Students can choose to audition or apply for one, two or all three shows.  Rehearsals and tech will be scheduled so that students can participate in as many shows as possible.  For performers, the tuition fee will remain $325 regardless of the number of shows a student is cast in.

     
  • Do I have to do all three shows?

    No.  Applicants can specify which shows they are interested in or fit their schedule.
     
  • Is there a cost?

  • When will applications be available?

    Applications are available now and can be downloaded from this web site.  All applications are due by March 27, 2010. 
     
  • When are applications due?

    All applications are due on Saturday, March 27, 2010.  Performers auditioning in person may bring their applications with them to auditions.  All other applications may be emailed, mailed or brought to the office at San Marin High School.

  • What is the Pre-Audition Workshop?

    On March 20th, from 1pm to 3pm, a free pre-audition workshop will be held at San Marin High School for students interested in applying as a Performer.  During the workshop students will learn about the shows being produced and the audition process.  In addition, students will be taught a song, a dance and a monologue that can be used in their audition if they wish.

    The workshop is optional and it is not required that students attend.

     
  • When are auditions?

    Auditions for Performers (actors, dancers and singers) will be held by appointment on March 27, 2010 or via submission of DVD recording.  Audition requirements for Performers are as follows:

    • A one to two minute monologue.
    • A one to two minute song.
    • A group dance, which will be taught during at the audition and at the optional pre-audition workshop.

    There are no auditions for Asst Directors, Designers, Musicians, or Technicians / Crew.  Applicants for these positions should download an application and submit it by March 21st to the office at San Marin High School, email or mail.

     
  • How do I apply if I can't make auditions in-person?

    Perfomers may submit a recorded audition in lieu of an in-person audition. Recorded auditions must contain recordings of the following:

    • A one to two minute monologue.
    • A one to two minute song.
    • A one to two minute dance (does not need to be original).
    • 3 to 5 mintues talking about yourself.

    Audition recordings may be uploaded to this web site (in most any computer format) along with an application or DVD recordings and application may be mailed to:

  • What if I have to work or take classes?

    MST's program has been specifically designed to rehearse and perform only in the evening hours, with exception of Sunday afternoon rehearsals and matinee performances.  More than half of our company members work or attend summer session classes while participating in MST.
